If the codecs you have installed on your system include FFDShow go into FFDShow's configuration panel, look for its blacklist/whitelist functionality, switch it into whitelist mode if it's not set-up that way yet, and add only the exe files of your preferred media player(s) to the whitelist. Any game using the DirectShow API to render videos (and there are quite a few) will be prone to having these same crash issues on your system (and many do no offer the possibility of disabling FMVs). The reason your game is crashing with FMVs enabled, is you have (or at one time had) a video codec or video codec pack installed that messes (or messed) with your default DirectShow filters and settings. The intro video and the company logos are real video cutscenes and those are supposed to show directly at startup, immediately after the 'loading' message that flashes by in the lower right corner. Most of the 'cutscenes' in the game are live rendered scenes. That setting turns off full-motion videos, i.e. Game starts normally now!
